Fairtrade been in the limelight the past two weeks as it has been Fairtrade Fortnight, but surprisingly not many people are aware of Fairtrade Gold.
In 2015 the volume of sales of Fairtrade gold increased 440% in the UK and the number of registered Goldsmith using Fairtrade gold is at 142 and Kirsty Taylor Jewellery is proud to be one of the registered Goldsmiths.

After reading Greg Valerio's fascinating book Making Trouble: Fighting for Fair Trade Jewellery, I was inspired and introduced to what exactly Fairtrade Gold means and felt it was an important issue that needs support. In summary Fairtrade gold is about small scale Artisan gold miners who source their gold in an ethical way that looks after the environment from where the gold is mind and cares for the communities that support the mining. It is about safe guarding a responsible way to extract gold that ensures the future of the industry and the people who mine the gold.

We are proud to be able to offer this option if you are interested and we have already produced a few items using the Fairtrade gold, including my own engagement ring!
